Trying to make that recipe and you’re only missing out on condensed milk? Or you have searched that Mall in your vicinity and they just don’t have condensed milk on their shelf? Or you got it, but the quantity given in your recipe is much more than what you bought? Well, I have been in all these scenarios before. But that stopped years back 😀.

Instant Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk

CONDENSED MILK: What it is and its origin

Condensed milk is a value-added dairy product made from the partial evaporation of water from pasteurized milk. In simpler terms it is a sweet dairy-based liquid that is produced by removing the moisture out of cow milk. It is most often found with sugar added, in the form of sweetened condensed milk, to the extent that the terms “condensed milk” and “sweetened condensed milk” are often used interchangeably today.

The origin of Condensed milk can be traced back to the Mid-nineteenth Century in the United States, where the need of finding means to preserve milk longer began. The first sweetened sealed condensed cow’s milk was produced by Gail Borden ( source: Wikipedia)

WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE IN THIS INSTANT HOMEMADE SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK?

There are basically just 4 items in this Instant Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk.

Sweet Condensed Milk Recipe

TRADITIONAL CONDENSED MILK VS INSTANT CONDENSED MILK:

CONDENSED MILK SAME VERSUS EVAPORATED MILK:

Evaporated milk is simply made by simmering milk to reduce the water and it’s unsweetened. Condensed milk, on the other hand, is milk cooked with mega quantities of sugar resulting in a thick, pudding-like milk that’s actually sweeter than cake frosting.

The major difference that sets these two milk products apart is the sugar content; sweetened condensed is always sweetened, while evaporated milk is unsweetened. Can these milk products be substituted for one another in a given recipe? NO.
